Counteract depression

The Diskussionsforum Depression is the adult forum of the Stiftung Deutsche Depressionshilfe. The aim of the foundation, which was founded in 2008, is to improve the care of people with depressive illnesses and to prevent suicides. The foundation now has local alliances in over 87 cities in Germany. In the course of the Corona Lockdowns in 2020 and 2021, an increase in depressive illnesses among young people was recorded.

With the interactive application FIDEO, the association offers a modern medium to reach young people via their smartphones at home and provide them with professional support. We have successfully implemented this target project with a progressive web app.

  • From idea to app

    In September 2019, the association came up with the idea of relaunching the outdated FIDEO forum. Both technically and in terms of design, a complete relaunch was desired.

    The goal was to implement a mobile application that, in addition to a moderated chat, also offers information material and a self-test for recognising depressive illnesses. The app addresses a target group between the ages of 14 and 25.  

  • High security standards for sensitive data

    The moderated chat offers a platform for exchange between young people with depressive disorders and their relatives. Discussions and personal reports of experiences are highly sensitive data that require careful handling. This posed a particular challenge with regard to data protection mechanisms, which we solved, among other things, through seamlessly encrypted data transmission and a suitable authorisation concept in the administration area.

  • Self test with chatbot

    A highlight of the application is the depression self-test. With just a few questions, it is possible to get an initial overview of whether a serious depressive illness is present. The test, which was developed by doctors, psychologists, affected persons and employees of the foundation, was technically implemented by us. An interactive chatbot tailored to the target group guides the user through the application and serves as a navigation aid.

  • Always at hand

    A PWA offers the advantage that it works universally for all operating systems. Whether iOS or Android: FIDEO can be added to the start screen with one click and is thus always at hand.

  • A deceptively real chatbot

    Natural-looking interactions increase the customer experience and strengthen the users' trust in the application. The chatbot, which was specially programmed by us, convinces with a large selection of suitable answers and is available to young people 24/7. In addition, it can be expanded with sentence modules as needed.

  • Search engine optimized FAQ

    The clearly designed FAQ section clarifies some of the most frequently asked questions on the topic of depression in a technically correct and sensitive language. The resulting improved findability is reflected in the number of monthly users.
